What is the History of NIKE?

 

·      In 1964, Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight founded the company under the name, Blue Ribbon Sports, and the company became Nike, Inc. in May 1971. As a distributor for Japanese shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger, the company initially sells shoes at track meets out of Knight Automobile in Eugene, Oregon.

·      1300, pairs of running shoes from Japan were sold by BRS in its first year with a sale cost of $8000. The company reached $20,000 in sales by 1965.

·      Santa Monica, California's 3107 Pico Boulevard was the first retail store opened by BRS. The company expanded its retail and distribution operations in Wellesley, Massachusetts, in 1967 due to a rise in sales.

·      Mark Parker, the CEO of Nike, announced publicly on March 15, 2018. John Donahoe became the company's next CEO in October 2019 and replaced Parker on January 13, 2020.  

·      It stopped directly selling on Amazon in November 2019, focusing on direct relationships with customers instead

·      Responding to a question about Nike's competition with Chinese brands, Nike CEO John Donahoe stated during a call with investors on June 24, 2021, that "Nike is the brand that is of China and for China"
